O’Neill Keeps West Coast Win Streak Rolling at Mazda Grand Prix of Portland

The Star Mazda West Coast Championship rolled into Portland to join forces with the national Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear for the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland and San Rafael resident Patrick O’Neill came away with his West Coast Championship win streak intact, recording victories in both rounds of the doubleheader weekend at Portland International Raceway.

Driving the black #64 O’Neill Construction Pro Formula Mazda that carried Dane Cameron to the Star Mazda Championship title in 2007, O’Neill would finish seventh overall on Saturday to claim the top West Coast Series spot ahead of Michael Guasch and Dave House and would back that up Sunday with a seventeenth place finish overall to lead Stan Kohls and House onto the podium.

Kevin Woods Rolls to Victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Bill Weaver Continues Winning Ways in Standard Class

Series rookie Kevin Woods recorded his first career victory in his Pro Formula Mazda and Bill Weaver kept his Standard Formula Mazda winning streak alive this weekend during Rounds Six and Seven of the MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Running with the San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America's Double Regional weekend, Woods and a field of 30 Mazda powered formula cars attacked the circuit at the spiritual home of Mazda Motorsports, with drivers from the Southwest Formula Mazda Challenge joining the West championship drivers for the festivities.

The West Coast Series website encompases the MOLECULE Formula Mazda Challenge, the Star Mazda West Coast Series, and the Mazdapalooza Series which feature the Pro Formula Mazda and Standard Formula Mazda race cars produced by Star Race Cars.

The four championships feature a $10,000 prize fund, support from a factory authorized Star Race Cars dealer, races at venues across the Western United States, with some West Coast Pro Formula Mazda events supporting the American LeMans Series and the ChampCar World Series, all with the benefit of limited travelling expenses.
